Type of members and classification standard by area

1. Type of members

A. Full member

• 1) Basic society: society consisting of board of trustees (10 basic societies, 26 societies of specialty subjects)
  • - A society that specializes in the studies set up as a subject at more than half of medical schools across the nation
  • - A society that specializes in the studies acknowledged as a basic area of medicine
  • - A society that specializes in the studies recognized as certified physician
• 2) Detailed and convergence society
  • - A society that derived and developed from a basic society, or a society with united characteristics of basic societies
  • - A society that targets single medical skill, single disease, single organ, etc.

B. Associate member

• - As a society that passed the member management rules of ‘evaluation of academic journal and academic activity’ and did not acquire the full membership,
  but acknowledged temporarily by the board of directors

2. Classification by area: Classified into 8 areas according to the academic characteristics and historical development of studies

• Area Ⅰ: Societies associated to ‘physiology’
• Area Ⅱ: Societies associated to ‘anatomy and pathology’
• Area Ⅲ: Societies associated to ‘social (humanistic) medicine’
• Area Ⅳ: Societies associated to ‘internal medicine’
• Area Ⅴ: Societies associated to ‘surgery’
• Area Ⅵ: Societies associated to ‘clinical medicine and not classified into Area IV or Area V’
• Area Ⅶ: Allied societies and societies with united characteristics of societies of Area I~VI
• Area Ⅷ: Doctors (member of · The Korean Medical Association) do not play a leading role as members of related societies and applicable societies, but highly relevant
  to the medical field
